Ok, so hear me out. You know that sensation you get when you first open a bag of Skittlez, or Salt ‘N Vinegar chips?
There’s this strange feeling when you anticipate the flavor before anything even passes your gums. That’s what it felt like opening Alternative Solution’s Black ‘N Blue for the first time. I even closed the lid and opened it back up slowly just to make sure it wasn’t my imagination. As its aroma filled my nose I couldn’t stop comparing it to a pile of sweet blueberry candy. There’s no reason that cannabis flower should smell this good. I’m struggling to even find words that truly encapsulate just how impressive Black ‘N Blue truly is.

A few years ago when I first came back into the city from college, I relied more heavily on vape cartridges; as I couldn’t smoke much where I was staying at the time. One time, I went looking for a new battery and there was a smoke shop that sold some fantastic devices on U st. I was satisfied with just my little Rick and Morty pen battery, but I couldn’t help but notice this guy sitting in a chair staring at me from the front door. I tried to ignore him until he pointed at my device and said:
“Hey…need something for that?”
He reminded me of a video game merchant that sells “strange wares, as long as you have the coin”. Looking back on it guys, I don’t even think this dude worked at the shop. This was just a random man in a swivel chair who sold vape cartridges to people.
I bought three. I am people.
I don’t even remember two of the cartridges, but my point is, there was one in particular that blew me away called “Blueberry”. The taste on it was immaculate, and I have been looking for a similar profile and heaviness ever since. I think I finally found it. Black ‘N Blue is in such a league of its own, that I’ve been comparing it more to a concentrate than other flowers.
When I’ve spoken to cultivators at Alt-Sol they are often very modest, and will say that all it takes is “love” and a good cure when it comes to some of these profiles, but this is just crazy. I don’t know what they are doing over there but it is amazing work, seriously.
After meeting its sweet blue candy-like inhale, you are introduced to a smooth pepper-like exhale filled with caryophyllene. This essential oil in the plant creeps down beautifully; hitting harder to reach areas in the body without taking away from its uplifting effects. Unlike some hybrids that may deliver more on flavor than effect, there’s an undeniable potency to the Black ‘N Blue that you will notice after only a few pulls.
As a consultant, I have recommended this strain to almost every cannabis user I have come across since it dropped. If you look at the genetics, It’s a combination of an old Haze cross known as Aussie Blues and their incredibly potent Black Russian indica flower. These genetics are very pure, and alongside a stacked terpene profile, they play a large role in Black ‘N Blue’s rounded and long-lasting effects.
Often with 50/50 hybrids, it is safe to assume that you will experience both cerebral and relaxing effects over the duration of your experience. Although these hybrids may have initial uplifting effects, they often have the potential to gradually set in between the eyes and creep down slightly to your shoulders, neck, and back.
There’s nothing gradual about Black ‘N Blue.
Although it has obvious sativa genetics, I wouldn’t recommend this one for staying focused and productive. You will likely experience both sides of its hybrid genetics all at once; your temples are surrounded in this heavy haze of euphoria, yet your body feels wrapped in a blanket of comfort and relaxation at the same time. Even if you choose to drift off to sleep, you wake up refreshed and in a motivated space. Black ‘N Blue has found a very special place in my heart and it’s something I hope to see much more of in the future. Well done Alt-sol.
