When we were younger, my partner and I would roll up on her father’s front porch and watch him and his friends drink moonshine out of mason jars. To this day, I don’t know who else drinks moonshine on a porch in the middle of Northwest DC, but hey – to each his own. That moonshine was kicking them in the teeth. The smell alone was so pungent, my jays had a hint of rubbing alcohol.
Now I love a District Cannabis drop, but suffice it to say, I was a little skeptical when I first read the name of this strain: Blackberry Moonshine. As with many strains that share a similar moniker, I knew to anticipate a peppery and heavy experience, although I couldn’t wrap my head around the “moonshine” aspect. When it first came in I asked myself questions like: “What made them name it that?” and “Well, does it really taste like moonshine?”

Blackberry Moonshine immediately greets you with its caryophyllene-heavy personality. Its pepper-like taste is so pronounced, it is noticeable on both the inhale and exhale. This essential oil can be effective for inflammation and analgesic relief. Surprisingly, as you push through the peppery potency of its pulls, you will be teased by Blackberry Moonshine’s sweet berry-like hints.
When peering into its genetics, I was surprised to find that Blackberry Moonshine is a complex cross of some very rare hybrids. Blackberry -a cross of Black Domina and raspberry cough- is responsible for much of Blackberry Moonshine’s peppery nature. It receives much of its stronger kush-like effects from Jabba’s Stash, a unique combination of Bubba Kush and Snow Lotus. This creates an instant feeling of heavy gratification starting from the brow and traveling to the rest of the body.
One of the most interesting parts about Blackberry Moonshine is that despite all of its Indica genetics there is an undeniable cerebral effect. It feels heavy, yet serene and functional. Your stress is lifted off of you and replaced with Blackberry Moonshine’s own gifts of comfort and indifference, which is great for those who struggle with motivation and self-doubt.
The real star within Blackberry Moonshine’s genotype is actually Prime Moonshine. And don’t worry, it doesn’t taste like rubbing alcohol but rather gives Blackberry Moonshine a smoother side that compliments its Black Domina traits.
